More can be accomplished through partnerships. The American English Basketball Camp achieves much more and reaches many more participants by coordinating its activities through its partners.
Special Partners
In Spring of 2015, Mayor William Lai (賴清德) kicked off a policy making English an official language in Tainan City, as an effort to make the city a more attractive international destination and business partner. The city created the English As A Second Language Department, which was responsible for overseeing the implementation of this policy throughout the different departments of Tainan City Government. This department contacted Tony Coolidge, ABEC founder, and presented the opportunity for partnership as a way to enhance the English language education of Tainan City students. As an official partner, Tainan City is facilitating the participation of local schools in the ABEC programs.
The Rotary Clubs of Tainan City were the first partners of ABEC. They are an ideal partner, because the organization is community service oriented, and actively invests in the education and cultural exchange programs for children in Taiwan. It was a no brainer to partner with an organization that started in the USA. The Tainan City groups provided volunteers, participants and funding in 2015, and will continue to expand their partnership in years to come.
