ABEC organizer meets retired NBA players as prospective Asian partners

Gary Smoke and Shawn Kemp

American Basketball English Camp organizer, Gary Smoke, traveled to Seattle, Washington in August to meet potential partners of the ABEC organization. His meetings included a group of retired NBA players and organizers of a Summer Camp in Washington State. Mr. Smoke discussed potential cooperation between the Basketball Camp in Washington State and the ABEC events. Discussions included some of the retired NBA players to travel to Taiwan and China to be involved in basketball camp activities and promotion.

This would be an opportunity to enhance the experience of participants of ABEC, and inspire them to continue to improve their basketball and English skills. It is a great motivational tool to provide a chance for young Taiwanese students to use their English to converse with someone famous from the USA.

ABEC Summer Camps 2015

The American Basketball English Camp became a more team-oriented concept and borrowed the style and substance of American summer camps thanks to its program developer, Coach Jesse Turk. With a team-oriented system, which included a team of coaches, volunteer teams and teams of participants, the activities took on a dynamic quality that volunteers and participants enjoyed.

The program was developed to ensure sustainability, by being team-oriented, providing a valuable and enjoyable experience, becoming more fiscally responsible, and being designed for future growth. We also set a goal to see how much more we could provide to the students within our budget to enrich the experience of the camp. The 2015 ABEC Summer Camps were held at three Tainan City schools, including HouJia Junior High, Jiali Junior High and Nanxin Junior High.
