American Basketball English Camp organizer, Tony Coolidge met with department heads at Tainan City Hall on September 16, 2015, to propose a partnership between the American-style camp, and the Tainan City Government, specifically as a program that enhances English language learning. The timing couldn't be better, as Tainan City has been actively looking for programs and activities ever since Mayor William Lai (賴清德) instituted a policy making English an official second language for Tainan City.
This partnership provides benefits for both parties. For ABEC, it ensures future growth and participation by more schools in Tainan City. For Tainan City, it ensures more options and methods for improving English education. As the Chief of the Education Department put it, the ABEC program is "transformational."
